Mt. Vernon’s Varsity soccer players have put their best foot forward this season as both the girl’s and boy’s teams prepare for sectionals.
The boy’s team is currently sitting at 8-1 with wins over Richmond, New Castle, Delta, Muncie Burris, Beech Grove, Fishers, Noblesville, and Yorktown. Their only loss came from a close matchup with bitter rival New Palestine, losing 2-1.
They are led by seniors Luke Yeadon, Matt Pruitt, Josh Williams, Noah Laughlin, and Devin Nelson. The team has had a successful season so far and look to continue their success in an upcoming match against Greenfield.
“So far, my senior year is going exactly how I have planned, besides losing to New Pal. I hope we can continue our success going forward and into sectionals,” said Luke Yeadon, 12.
Mt. Vernon Lady Marauders are currently sitting at 4-2-1 with wins over Southport, Greenfield Central, Hamilton Heights, and Shelbyville. Their losses have come against New Castle and Warren Central. The ladies tied with Franklin Central with a score of 1-1.
Leading the girl’s team are seniors Blaire Viehweg, Natalie Givan, Avery Haines, Emily Mcnab, Lauren Parker, and Madison McClain.
The girls have found quite a bit of success this year winning their first game of the season against Southport by a score of 13-0.
“We have been doing pretty well so far, but I would like to start winning more games and gain confidence in our team before we head to sectionals,” said Blaire Viehweg, 12.
The girl’s team will try to grab another win in an upcoming match against Yorktown.
